Dragon Con weekend is basically Atlanta’s annual reminder that the city can always get a little weirder.
Cosplay spilling onto MARTA.
Stormtroopers grabbing coffee.
Someone dressed as a Transformer casually waiting to cross Peachtree Street.
Tens of thousands of nerds taking over Downtown Atlanta for five glorious days.
So, whether you’re attending Dragon Con, coming Downtown for the parade, or just looking for an excuse to embrace your inner nerd… Welcome, bb. You’re among friends. 🤓
But Dragon Con weekend is a MARATHON.
You’re going to need coffee.
Actual food.
A MARTA strategy.
Somewhere to escape the crowds.
Maybe late-night snackies.
… & because you’re already in Atlanta, I’m also going to convince you to leave the convention bubble for a few local side quests.
So charge your phone, put on comfortable shoes, & let’s get nerdy. Here’s your local’s guide to doing Dragon Con weekend the ATL way.

🎟️ Five days of: cosplay, gaming, panels, comics, fantasy, sci-fi, art, performances, parties & glorious nerd nonsense.
Dragon Con itself describes the convention as spanning science fiction/fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music & film.
🤓 Local Tip: Download the official Dragon Con app before you arrive. You’re not going to remember where 47 things are happening after three hours of cosplay spotting. Trust me.
Dragon Con = Main Quest. Atlanta = Side Quests.

Peachtree Center Station = Dragon Con central.
Airport → Downtown MARTA (gold/red line). Easy peasy.
Do I recommend driving Downtown during Dragon Con? Respectfully… No. 😂

A neighborhood favorite that’s found a new home in South Downtown. Come for the drinks, stay for the projector, soccer matches, & community vibes that make it feel like everyone’s watching the game together. ILY forever!
⚽ Park Bar (Downtown)
An Atlanta classic, & one of my go-tos, within walking distance of Mercedes-Benz Stadium or Tabernacle. Sports fans, cold drinks, & plenty of pre-game energy. Burger & tots are a must.
🥅 El Tesoro(South Downtown, Kirkwood - OG, & West End in Lee + White)
Tacos, margaritas, & fútbol? Say less. Whether you're at the Kirkwood original or the newer Lee + White location, El Tesoro is one of my favorite patios for catching a match with friends.
🍴The CTR Atlanta (Downtown)
Formerly the CNN Center, CTR Foodworks, public gathering spaces, events, & future programming through CTR Culture officially opened, & after getting a sneak peek during media preview night, I can confidently say it's one to watch.

You’re going for crispness & flavor range, from strawberry hot to jerk wings (yes really). Pro Tip: Ask about the Aunite & Uncle Specials. IYKYK… & we all know we’re old AF!
🥙Nick’s Food To Go(Downtown Atlanta near Sweet Auburn)
Old-school Greek comfort food from a tiny Atlanta walk-up that’s been doing its thing for decades. My move? Gyro + fries. Every damn time. Nomsss.
🍽️ Eats (Wild Heaven West End)
An Atlanta classic got a second life at Wild Heaven West End. Come for the jerk chicken, chicken lasagna, veggies + mac & cheese, then stay for a beer on the Atlanta Beltline.
🍔 Littles Food Store (Cabbagetown)
Delight in small bites packed with big flavors. LOVE their burgers but can’t go wrong with a diggity dog, sandwich, or brekkie!
🍴 Hankook Taqueria(Underwood Hills in “West Midtown”)
Korean-Mexican fusion & an Atlanta favorite for tacos with a little more personality. Grab the Korean BBQ tacos, sesame fries, & something spicy before heading back into the nerd vortex.
🇨🇳 Atlanta Chinatown Food Court (Chamblee)
If you know, you know. No influencer wall. No neon slogan. Just steam trays, laminated wall menus, & some of the most comforting food in the metro.
Plaza Fiesta Food Court (Buford Highway)
If you want sensory overload in the best way, this is the spot. Bright colors. Music drifting through. You’re not here for “concept.” You’re here because the food is lively, joyful, & deeply rooted in community.

🍔 The Westwood (Westview)
New kid on the block, but giving neighborhood staple energy. The menu stays approachable price-wise (which we LOVE in this economy), while still bringing thoughtful touches, like the Coca-Cola onions that absolutely deserve their own shoutout.
🦑 Octopus Bar(East Atlanta Village)
Truly iconic. Opens at 10:30pm and doesn’t even pretend to be normal. The Asian-fusion small plates will have you in another world.
🦐 Po’Boy Shop (Decatur)
Realness meets New Orleans flavors. They don’t close too late, do it & munch on a Shrimp po’boy, duh.
Waffle House obviously gets its ceremonial moment.

Dive bar meets arcade. Expect retro games, Super Geek Trivia, & karaoke energy. Notes: Although not open yet in EAV, keep an eye out... They do take games & setup at Dragon Con.
🏓 Sister Louisa’s (Edgewood Ave in Old Fourth Ward)
Ping pong, DJs, karaoke, no cover, & the most chaotic decor ever (in the best way).
📚 My Parents’ Basement (Avondale Estates)
Comic book bar meets pinball kingdom. They even do comic subscriptions.
Dragon Con might bring you Downtown.
But don’t let the convention hotels be the only Atlanta you see.
Grab coffee from a local shop. Take MARTA somewhere weird. Eat something that didn’t come from a hotel lobby. Wander through Little Five Points. Buy a comic you absolutely don’t need. Play an arcade game.
Talk to strangers dressed like fictional characters.
Embrace the weird.
Because for one weekend every year, Atlanta gets a little nerdier than usual.
Frankly? I think she looks good that way. 🐉✨
