Your Must-Do Guide to Atlanta’s Historic West End

Is the Westside the best side?

Historic West End feels like old Atlanta in the best way.

Historic homes with some of my favorite architecture from Queen Anne Victorians & Craftsman bungalows. Deep roots. Large front porches. Community spaces. Murals, patios, small businesses, & the kind of neighborhood where people still stop to talk to each other.

It’s slower here… It’s intentional.

While a lot of people rush straight through the Westside heading toward the BeltLine or Lee+White, Historic West End deserves time of its own.

Especially during weekends like Friends & Neighbors — when local makers, creatives, food pop-ups, & community all collide in one place.

So if you’re heading to the neighborhood soon, here’s how I’d spend the day.

Coffee + Slow Starts

Portrait Coffee

A staple for a reason. Community-rooted, beautifully designed, & serving some of my fave seasonal drinks in the city. The space feels cozy.
🖤 Black-owned

Afro Café

A newcomer in the West End, this vibrant spot celebrates African culture through coffee, community, & colorful design. Come for the vibes, stay for the heritage-rich brews. Pastries from Alons.
🖤 Black-owned

Where To Eat & Drink

Tassili’s Raw Reality

Atlanta legend status. Massive portions, flavor-packed plates, & the kale wrap that’s probably fed half the city at this point.
🖤 Black-owned

Boggs Social & Supply

Very much a neighborhood anchor. Pop-up chefs, community hangs, late nights, & the kind of spot where you accidentally stay longer than planned.

Pop-ups include:
Beksa Lala Read Polish Soul
Gomo’s Subs Browse my sandwich crawl
Jimmie - Jerk BBQ Sink your teeth into my BBQ guide

Lee+White

A mixed-use converted warehouse built along the Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail, Lee + White blends breweries, patios, food spots, fitness, & community hangs into one sprawling little pocket of the neighborhood.

You could honestly spend an entire afternoon here without trying too hard.

🍴 Food Hall Notes
The food hall setup makes this area especially easy for groups, wandering, or indecisive eaters (respectfully 👀).

Spots Worth Stopping Into

Wild Heaven West End
A neighborhood anchor for beers, events, pop-ups, & patio hangs. This is also the home base for Friends & Neighbors Market.

Eats at Wild Heaven
Atlanta nostalgia. Rotating food concepts, casual bites, & easy group-hang energy without a full sit-down dinner plan.

Monday Night Garage
Still one of the top brewery patios on the Westside. Spacious, laid-back, & built for lingering. Dogs welcome inside + out.

ASW Distillery
Cocktails, whiskey flights, & a slightly moodier energy if beer isn’t your thing.

Hop City
One of my go-to spots when I’m hosting or throwing a porch hang night. Huge beer selection, easy grab-&-go options, & the kind of place that makes you feel oddly prepared for whatever the night turns into.

Bonus: perfect for building your own little six-pack situation before heading home.

El Tesoro
I adore this patio (formerly Best End) because of the picturesque nature and art murals as a backdrop. Tacos, horchata, margaritas & dangerous “just one more drink” energy.

Honey Suckle Gelato
Unique flavors & perfect for cooling off after BeltLine wandering. Honestly? Every neighborhood should have a casual gelato stop.

The Overlook Boulder + Fitness
A climbing gym that somehow still fits the neighborhood vibe. Great if your ideal Saturday includes movement before tacos + drinks after.

Refij Aesthetics
A little self-care moment tucked into the neighborhood. Whether you’re booking skincare treatments or just trying to romanticize your life a bit more, Refij adds to the softer, wellness-driven side.

Follower Picks: Box Car, Bovino After Dark.

Vintage, Shopping & Local Finds

🛍 Brass Ring Vintage

Vintage that feels collected, not manufactured. From worn-in denim to statement pieces with real personality, Brass Ring leans more timeless-cool than trend cycle.

Perfect for treasure hunting before grabbing a patio drink or wandering the BeltLine afterward.

Street Art, Creative Spaces & Culture

Historic West End has always carried creative energy — you just have to slow down enough to notice it. From murals tucked between buildings to historic arts institutions, this side of Atlanta feels deeply connected to storytelling, Black history, & community-rooted creativity.

🎨 Street Art & Public Murals

Best Map: Bookmark the Atlanta Street Art Map by Art Ruddick — it’s the holy grail. He even hosts in-person tours if you’re down to explore IRL.

🖼 Hammonds House Museum

A historic Black arts museum housed inside a beautiful Victorian home. Intimate, thoughtful, & one of the cultural anchors of the neighborhood.

🕊️ Wren’s Nest

Part literary landmark, part cultural space. Home to the legacy of Joel Chandler Harris, but today the programming leans community-focused, educational, & surprisingly creative.

🎭 Goat Farm (The second location is in West Midtown: The Goat Farm Arts Center)

Industrial, immersive, & unlike anywhere else in Atlanta. Performances, artist studios, installations, music, experimental work — the Goat Farm feels like stepping into another universe entirely.

A must if you love interdisciplinary art, weird creative energy, or simply wandering somewhere that feels Atlanta deeply.

Things To Do Nearby

🌳 Westside BeltLine Trail

The Atlanta BeltLine is perfect for walking off lunch, people-watching, or turning your “quick stop” into a full afternoon outside.

Honestly? Some of the best parts of this area are unplanned. Walk the historic streets, admire the architecture, & let yourself slow down a little.

P.S. 🚦 Don’t miss when Atlanta Streets Alive hosts an open street initiative (West End to Grant Park). The next event is May 31, 2026.

🧺 Friends & Neighbors Market

If you’re visiting during Friends & Neighbors, expect local makers, vintage finds, food pop-ups, plants, art, music, & the kind of community energy that makes Historic West End feel special in the first place.

Honestly? It’s less about rushing through vendors… and more about lingering awhile.

Hosted at Wild Heaven West End right off the BeltLine on May 24, 2026. We hope to see you there!

✨ The Takeaway

Historic West End doesn’t really ask you to rush.

It’s a neighborhood built for wandering.
For sitting outside a little longer.
For talking to strangers.
For discovering small businesses that still feel deeply connected to the people around them.

… & honestly? Atlanta needs more of that.

So whether you’re pulling up for Friends & Neighbors, a patio hang, or just exploring somewhere new…

Stay awhile.
